Inspired by the iconic sweaters of WWII, this is the Just James Outdoors original Mk II Jungle Sweater! This is a light, mid-weight sweater designed to be worn as a stand alone garment or in conjunction with a base layer. It works equally well as a layering item in cold weather or a light outer garment paired with a t-shirt.
These sweaters are made of 100% Merino wool. They are one of the softest sweaters you will find and certainly among the softest sweaters designed for outdoor functionality! Don't be fooled by other brands that offer "Merino wool" sweaters with only a fraction of real wool content.
The original "jungle sweater" was devised during WWII to be a lightweight copy of the more common G.I. shawl collar style sweater worn in the European theater. The jungle sweater, officially designated as the "Shirt, Wool Knit OG-209" was intended for the soldiers in the jungles of the China/Burma/India theater. Nighttime temperature swings could leave the men shivering in spite of the tropic conditions. They required a lightweight, quick drying base layer. The jungle sweater served well into the Vietnam War until it was replaced with a synthetic "sleep shirt".
This is by no means a reproduction. It is a modern reinterpretation with soft, moisture wicking and anti-microbial Merino wool. It will serve you just as well as a classic fashion statement with a collared shirt as an intermediate layer during your next adventure.
These sweaters are meant to be tighter fitting than a standard sweater. For a better fit when layering, please order a size larger than normal.
